How much does Etsy take from a $100 sale?

A US shop pays $9.95 in fees on a $100 item with no shipping charged: $0.20 to list it, $6.50 transaction fee and $3.25 payment processing. Charge $10 shipping and it is $10.90. On an Offsite Ads order, add 15%: $24.95 in all, or $27.40 with the $10 shipping, if the ad fee counts shipping.

US rates, checked against Etsy's help pages on 2026-11-03. Etsy can change them without notice.

A $100 item, with and without shipping

A US shop, one item, no discount, no sales tax. The two columns differ only in the $10 shipping the buyer pays. The amounts are round numbers, not a typical order.

Etsy fees on a $100 item with no shipping charged and with $10 shipping charged
No shipping$10 shipping
Order total$100.00$110.00
Etsy fees on every order
Listing fee$0.20$0.20
Transaction fee (6.5%)$6.50$7.15
Payment processing (3% + $0.25)$3.25$3.55
Total fees$9.95$10.90
If it is an Offsite Ads order
Offsite Ads fee (15%)$15.00$16.50
Total fees at 15%$24.95$27.40
Offsite Ads fee (12%)$12.00$13.20
Total fees at 12%$21.95$24.10

The ad fee is 15% for a shop that has always made less than $10,000 USD in any consecutive 365 days, and 12% for one that has made $10,000 USD or more. Etsy only charges it on orders it attributes to an ad. Source: how Etsy's Offsite Ads work.

Costs are set to zero there, so "You keep" is the order total less Etsy's fees: $90.05. The same order with $10 shipping leaves $99.10. As a 15% ad order it leaves $75.05, and with shipping as well, $82.60.

What each fee is charged on

Etsy's pages say what each fee is charged on, most of the time. Where they don't, the table says so.

What each Etsy fee is charged on, and what Etsy's pages leave out
Transaction feeThe total cost of the item, plus shipping and gift wrap if you charge for them. Sales tax: Etsy doesn't say. Source: Etsy fee basics.
Payment processingThe item's total sale price, including shipping and any applicable sales tax. Gift wrap: Etsy doesn't say. Source: payment processing fees.
Offsite AdsEtsy's page says "the amount you made from your sale before the advertising fee was applied" in one place and "the order total" in another, and defines neither. Whether shipping or sales tax is inside it, Etsy doesn't say. The calculator counts shipping and leaves tax out.
Regulatory operating feeNot charged on US shops. Where it applies, it is charged on the item price and shipping, including gift wrap and personalization. Sales tax: Etsy doesn't say. Source: regulatory operating fee.
Listing fee$0.20 per listing, not per order. Etsy adds it when the item is listed and says it has to be paid whether or not the item sells. A listing expires after 4 months, and auto-renewing starts the 4 months again at another $0.20. Source: fees and taxes for selling on Etsy.

What shipping costs you

Every $10 of shipping you charge adds $0.95 to the fees: the 6.5% transaction fee and 3% processing. On an ad order at 15% it adds $2.45, if the ad fee takes 15% of the shipping too.

The fees look at what you charge, not what the postage costs. Charge $10 for shipping, pay $10 to post the parcel, and you are $0.95 down on that line.

Sales tax

Processing is charged on sales tax, so the calculator's processing line runs low whenever tax is collected. At 3%, a buyer's $8.00 of sales tax adds $0.24.

What isn't in the table

  • Currency conversion. Etsy's fees page says a 2.5% fee is assessed when currency conversion is required.
  • VAT on fees. The same page says "VAT may vary" and gives no figure.
  • Discounts. We couldn't confirm whether Etsy works out its fees before or after a seller discount. The calculator assumes after.
  • The shop set-up fee. Etsy calls it one-time and non-refundable, and says the cost varies by location. We haven't put a US amount on it.
  • The listing fee on sales of more than one item. Etsy's page says the first item was paid for when listed and each extra costs $0.20. The calculator puts $0.20 on every item sold, as a stand-in for what you paid to list, so it runs a little high on those.

Other countries

These are US rates. Processing differs with the country of your bank account, and some countries add a regulatory operating fee. See the pages for the UK, Germany, Australia and India, or pick your country in the calculator.

Keptsheet is a small, new brand. This page was built with AI tools, then checked against Etsy's pages and the calculator's arithmetic. We are not affiliated with Etsy. Nothing here is tax or accounting advice. More on who we are.

Keptsheet also sells a $9 spreadsheet with one row per order, these same fees worked out for you, and your net profit by month: Keptsheet's tracker. It's our product, and you don't need it to use the calculator.

Assumptions and sources

  • Rates were checked on 2026-11-03 from Etsy's help pages and may change without notice. None of those pages shows an effective date. We read the help pages, not Etsy's formal Fees & Payments Policy, which would not load.
  • Sales tax and refunds are excluded.
  • Results are estimates. Compare them with your Etsy payment statements.
  • Fees are worked out on the order total after your discount. The listing fee is counted once per item sold.
  • Not included: the 2.5% currency conversion fee, the shop set-up fee, Etsy Ads, and taxes Etsy withholds from some sellers, such as India's TCS and TDS.
  • Etsy states the listing fee and the Offsite Ads cap in USD. The calculator treats them as plain numbers in your shop currency and does no currency conversion, so enter your own amounts.
